WHAT IS ACROGYM?
Acrobatics Gymnastics, also known as AcroGym, is a combination of:
-
Artistic Gymnastics,
-
Tumbling,
-
Acrobatics and
-
Dance.
It is performed by groups of two or more gymnasts on a gymnastics floor, incorporating balancing, dynamic, and individual elements.
The entire routine is choreographed to music, making it both a thrilling sport to participate in and a spectacular one to watch.
OUR STORY
As founder and head coach of AcroGym4Life, I would like to share my story with you. I was born into a gymnastics family with both parents actively participating and coaching gymnastics. I grew up knowing that hard work is required to achieve success. Watching my committed and passionate parents coaching inspired me to continue their legacy of making a difference in the lives of others.
At the age of five, Acrobatic Gymnastics was introduced to South Africa. Amazed by this beautiful and fantastic sport, we transitioned to Acrobatic Gymnastics. At the age of 11, I qualified for Junior Springbok colors, but due to regulations from the National Board, my age was rejected, and I was only allowed to obtain my colors on my 12th birthday.
I was fortunate to compete in both a duet and trio with my mother. In 1994, I had the opportunity to compete at the World Championships in a mixed pair with my father. Between 1988 and 1994, I achieved my Springbok colors six consecutive times. At the age of 18, I established my first club called Cygnus Acroclub. I am still connected with those early gymnasts and cherish fond memories of those early foundational years.
A few years ago, my path crossed with Chanel Steyn from Chanic School of Dance. Chanel helped me to find my direction and will be forever grateful to her.
AcroGym4Life represents a new season in God’s plan for my life. I have the amazing privilege to coach with my daughter. Joining us as assistant coach and choreographer is Chante Senekal.
Through commitment, passion, experience, and quality coaching, our goal is to make a difference in the lives of every gymnast. I am excited to continue my Acrobatic Gymnastics journey.
